In 2016, the Victorian Bar Association endorsed the Law Council of Australia`s National Model Gender Equitable Information Policy to achieve a nationally consistent approach to bringing about cultural and behavioural change within the legal profession towards gender reporting practices. The Victoria Bar Association has also adopted the Law Council`s Diversity and Equality Charter. The Victoria Commercial Bar Association, members of the judiciary and the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission have also launched the CommBar Fair Information Initiative to improve information for women at all levels and to work with law firms that engage the commercial bar to commit to real change. On Thursday, Chief Justice Anne Ferguson announced the appointment of 23 new silk mills. Under the supervision of the volunteer committee, the program provides support to individuals and community groups. This work includes advocating for human rights, environmental or social justice, and supporting people who are marginalized or from disadvantaged backgrounds. The principle of the program is to ensure that everyone has access to legal representation, regardless of age, gender, race, disability or socio-economic hardship. The appointment of 23 new silk fabrics to the Victorian Bar Association by the Supreme Court of Victoria is welcomed by Victorian Bar Association President Róisín Annesley KC. The Executive Council has appointed the Honourable Justice Lesley Ann Taylor as a Justice of Appeal of the Supreme Court of Victoria, effective today. In 2000, the Victoria Bar Association, in partnership with the Public Interest Law Clearing House, launched a legal assistance program to coordinate the pro bono work of Victorian lawyers. Australia`s Chief Justice, Murray Gleeson, praised the Bar Association for its efforts to “make access to justice not just a buzzword, but a practical reality for many.” [2] The legal aid programme, now known as the pro bono programme (the programme) and PILCH, now known as Justice Connect, has approximately 1000 Victorian Bar participants. This week, the 2020 and 2021 silk factories finally had the opportunity to enjoy the traditional celebrations of the appointment as Senior Counsel. On Monday, she and I had the privilege of appearing before the High Court of Australia at the Silks Bows ceremonial sessions. On Monday evening, the Australian Bar Association hosted a Silks Gala Dinner at the National Gallery of Australia.
