A note on paper-sized terminology: The most common “oversized” inkjet paper is known as tabloid paper, or 11 x 17 inches. (The term tabloid is sometimes used interchangeably with A3, but it`s actually two different sizes: A3 measures 11.69 x 16.54 inches.) All the printers we`ve gathered here at least support tabloid printing. Some models may have Near Field Communication (NFC) access points for tap-to-connect wireless printing from mobile devices, but this has gone out of fashion. Wi-Fi Direct (for printing from a computer without a network), AirPrint (for connecting to iOS devices), or MOPRIA (for Android devices) is more likely to be supported. The Epson EcoTank Pro ET-16650 AIO widescreen prints well and cost-effectively and comes with two years of unlimited free ink, making it exceptional value for small businesses and workgroups. Designed for high-performance printing at home or in the micro office, the Epson WorkForce Pro WF-7310 offers high speed and impressive paper handling in standard sizes up to 13 x 19 inches. The Pixma G7020 inkjet all-in-one offers one of the lowest cost of ownership available in a consumer printer, making it great value for families and home offices. Between inkjet printers and laser printers, each has different advantages. Inkjet printers can produce text of almost as high quality as lasers, but laser-printed text has the advantage of not staining when wet.

For graphics, most color lasers (but not monolasers) can provide better quality color graphics on plain paper than most inkjet lasers. However, if you use heavy (and more expensive) matte and photo papers with inkjet printing, most inkjet printers can provide higher quality graphics than laser printers. (Learn more about the issue of inkjet versus laser.) Some of these printers are AIOs that also scan and copy. a subset of it has automatic document loaders (ADFs); And a smaller subset of it can feed all the paper sizes the printer can print on. The Brother MFC-J5845DW can print up to tabloid paper, but it can only scan and copy documents in letter or legal size. The Epson EcoTank Pro ET-16650, a large format model with bulk ink, can print up to a super tabloid, but scanning and copying is limited to tabloids and smaller. Check the manufacturer`s datasheet (and our expert opinions) to make sure you get a printer with the features you need. In recent years, some home AIOs designed specifically for photos included the ability to scan slides, which were mostly limited to 35mm slides and negatives. At this point, none of these models are in production yet, but if you find one for sale, you should check out the photo scanning feature for color quality and high resolution. This summary does not include professional and semi-professional widescreen models for photo printing, such as Epson`s various SureColor printers or Canon`s Pixma Pro-100, Pixma Pro-300 and ImagePrograf Pro-1000. It`s actually a separate class of printers, with very different considerations about quality, size, ink cost, and support for sophisticated art-oriented media.

Most of my current work for PCMag revolves around printers and projectors, but I`ve covered a variety of other topics — in over 4,000 pieces, over 40 years — including fields related to computer science and others ranging from monkey language experiments to politics, cosmology to space colonies. I have written for PCMag.com from the beginning, and before that for PC Magazine, as a contributor, then as an editor, then as a senior analyst for printers, scanners and projectors, and now, after a short break, again as editor. Printer manufacturers offer a variety of MFPs, both inkjet and laser-based. (You`ll be surprised to learn which printer technology works best for you.) Given the mix of printing technologies and brands, as well as the multitude of possible combinations of features and functions, finding a model with the right features – or at least the best set for your needs – is a task. Here are the most important things to keep in mind when buying an AIO printer. Who doesn`t want to reduce the number of machines at home or office that they have to power, water, fill and turn on? (Pets and plants are a sufficient obligation.) By definition, any printer can print naturally. However, not all printers can help throw your old fax machine, copier and flatbed scanner into the big trash can in the sky. The Brother MFC-J6945DW is an all-in-one large format colour inkjet printer that prints well, is feature-rich and cost-effective to use, making it exceptional value for small offices. AIO printers tend to be larger than single-function printers, and even some home models can be large enough to make you feel like they`re dominating you when you put them on your desk. Be sure to check the size and weight of the MFP, even though you probably won`t be moving it very often. Still not sure if you really need a large format printer? Take a look at our selection of the best inkjet printers and laser printers, as well as our guide to choosing between inkjet printers and laser printers, to find the right printer for your needs.

This story was produced in collaboration with our sister site Computer Shopper. Canon`s Color imageClass MF746Cdw All-in-One Laser Printer prints well and has a solid set of enterprise-oriented features, making it a good choice for large businesses. Do you really need large prints at home or in the office? These high-end large format printers produce photos and documents up to 11 x 17 inches and 13 x 19 inches or more. Another issue is the digitization element itself. A new feature on high-end AIO printers is the “single-pass” scanner, which has scanning elements above and below the feed path. A single-pass scanner can simultaneously scan both sides of a two-sided document, doubling the scanning speed. Do you need to scan, copy or fax in addition to printing? An AIO printer is what you`re looking for. Choose the right multifunction machine with our advice and in-depth reviews.

These printers vary greatly in terms of price and destination, as well as the number and configuration of ink tanks and their nominal cost for each color or black-and-white page. Business-oriented models typically have four ink tanks (cyan, magneta, yellow, and black), while photo-oriented models typically add one or two additional tanks. All-in-one printers (AIOs) are those magic machines. AIOs add important functionality beyond just printing, which is why they are known as multifunction printers (MFPs). All can copy, and since copying requires a scanner, most can scan. Many add fax to mix with other features, such as scanning and printing from cloud sites. They range from small models under $100 suitable for home or home office use, to floor giants that can anchor a corporate department with sufficiently large paper capacities and maximum print cycles (essentially recommended print limits) of tens of thousands of pages per month.
