This position is one of six full-time lawyers in the University of Georgia`s Office of Legal Affairs, the university`s in-house legal counsel. The Office`s lawyers report directly to the General Counsel and provide legal advice and advice to the University and the advice of its administrators, faculty and staff in the course of its duties on behalf of the University.
In addition to providing legal advice to the University on a wide range of legal issues, the other responsibilities of the Legal Office include managing the University`s complaint and dispute resolution procedures, interpreting policies, reviewing contracts and, in collaboration with the Attorney General, conducting actual or potential litigation involving the University. Each lawyer in the firm is directly responsible for specific areas and content units. Areas of responsibility sometimes change to meet the needs of the entity and institution. Deputy General Counsel positions are for lawyers with 2+ years of experience in developing expertise in higher education law. Deputy General Counsel develop their expertise and maintain close working relationships with their assigned units.
